Applied Energistics 2 – Security and wireless

by TheAshenWolf / Saturday, 12 March 2022 / Published in Mod Guides

Set up your Applied Energistics 2 (AE2) wireless access securely with ease by following this mod guide. Learn this and more on Mystical Machines..

Greetings, friends! Do you know that annoying feeling when you are building outside of your base, run out of blocks, and have to run back to your base, to get more? And that is happening over and over again? Of course, you do… Read on, because Applied Energistics 2 (AE2) has a thing that will save you about 30 seconds of your time whenever you run out of blocks!

Network Security

In order to connect the wireless terminal, you need to set up security. By default, your network has no security whatsoever. Every other player can come in and break your network. The security terminal changes everything though. No other person (right after placing the terminal) can interact with your network. In order to whitelist your friends, or set up the public profile, you need to craft some Biometric Cards.

Biometric Cards

First of all, you need to assign the biometric card to a player. You can do that by right-clicking another player, or shift right-clicking to bind yourself.
    1. Super admin – The person who placed the terminal is considered a super-admin and can not have his rights removed. This player does not need to have a biometric card in the terminal either.
    2. Public profile – This option is used for everyone that does not have a biometric card in the system. If you use a blank biometric card, you can edit the rights of the public profile.
    3. Listed player – Option, that is executed for a player that has his biometric card inside the security terminal.
But just putting the card inside does nothing. What you need is to give it permissions. That can be done in the bottom slot of the terminal, next to the five buttons. These buttons represent permissions. Starting from the left, we have:
Player's permission setup

Player’s permission setup – With these permissions, the player will be able to do everything.

Public profile permission setting

Public profile permission setting – Limits all users that do not have their own card setup

  1. Deposit – The user is allowed to view and deposit into the network.
  2. Withdraw – With this permission, the user is allowed to view and withdraw from the network.
  3. Craft – Allows to start and stop auto crafting jobs.
  4. Build – Gives permission to physically build, modify, and destroy the network.
  5. Security – The user now can change the security options of others.

Colored options are enabled. Grayed-out options are disabled.

When the network has no energy, the security terminal does not work and can be broken!

Wireless

Now that you have your security set up, it is time to install the wireless.

Linking

In order to link your wireless terminal, you need to put it in the top-right slot in the security terminal. This is the reason why we needed the security terminal.

Wireless Access Point

Only linking your device is not enough, however. In order to connect, you need wireless access points. When placed, this point offers a 16 block radius at a cost of 8 AE/t (16 RF/t). This point can be stocked up by up to 64 wireless boosters, resulting in a wonderful 528-meter radius at a cost of 4 100 AE/t (8.2 kRF/t).

Now just right-click your terminal and browse your network! If there are mods in your mod pack, that add different wireless terminals (fluid, crafting, etc.), you can link and use them the same way as the basic one.
Have a great day! Stay safe!

MM-Main-logo

Mystical Machines is a modded Minecraft network with the goal of keeping a small community, with few high-quality servers. We achieve this by having player caps on servers, keeping over 80% of the used plugins to be custom-made, and by only offering a limited amount of modpacks. Hosting only a few modpacks and keeping strict player caps on servers, allows us to keep the community small and not scale into a massive network.
Mystical Machines is run by Brend, also known as Rubbertjuh. He has over 8 years of experience in hosting Minecraft servers and was also the founder of ToastyNetworks. ToastyNetworks was a network that used to be one of the biggest modded Minecraft networks in the world but shut down recently. After retiring for a while, Rubbertjuh's interest in community management, plugin development, and modded Minecraft reignited.
